Divergent Actress Released from Jail

Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars actress Shailene Woodley has been released from jail after being arrested in North Dakota during a protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline.  Woodley, who now faces charges of criminal trespassing, was among 27 protestors arrested during last week’s peaceful demonstration.

Following approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the controversial oil pipeline project has faced two failed lawsuits from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, who claim the construction “threatens the Tribe’s environmental and economic well-being, and would damage and destroy sites of great historic, religious, and cultural significance to the Tribe.”

Woodley’s arrest was streamed via Facebook live, during which she said “I was walking back to my RV, which is right there so that we can go back to camp peacefully and they grabbed me by my jacket and said that I was not allowed to continue…they had giant guns and batons and zip ties and they’re not letting me go.” The video of her arrest has since received over three million views.
