Citizenship and the Law

Is the United States Criminal Justice System working?   Some people may say yes it is working and some may say no it is not doing anything to keep people from committing crimes. Personally I don’t think it is working.  Putting people in jail and thinking they are suppose to change does not always work.  Some people just get out and go back to the same old habits.  So we should come up with a better way to punish people so that they don’t go back to their old ways.  Here are some examples of celebrities that kept doing bad and got away with it.  First off is O.J. Simpson June 1994 was suspected to two counts of murder for of his ex-wife and a waiter.  The trial lasted for around eight months and was noticed as the most publicized criminal trial in American history.  O.J Simpson  was let free.  He should be in jail for the murder of these two people but he is not.  Lindsay Lohan was  charged with a DUI and possession of  cocaine after a car accident she was in in May of 2007.  That is when she started going downhill.  She kept doing cocaine and didn’t go to alcohol classes she was ordered too.  So they put her in jail for 90 days for not going to the classes.  When she got out she went back to doing drugs once again.  They kept putting her in rehabs and in  jail and making her do community service but she just kept doing things that she should not be doing.  So her going to all those places and her not changing there should be another way to make her wanna quit doing drugs.  Next Tim Allen he was caught with 650 grams of cocaine at an airport.  He was suppose to get a jail sentence of for life but was only sentenced to three to seven because he told the police who the dealers were.  Even though he did that he should of still got life for having illegal drugs in his possession and smuggling them onto a plane.  These are signs that the United States Criminal Justice System is not always very efficient for everyone and that there should be a different way to punish people here in the United States.
