EXPLOSION IN NYC SUSPECT NOW IN CUSTODY

After a shootout with police, the suspect wanted in connection with a recent bombing in New York City’s Chelsea district is being held in police custody, charged with attempted murder. Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, has also been linked to a bombing in Seaside Park, New Jersey and additional explosive devices found in Elizabeth, New Jersey. While no motive has been established, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has suggested the bombing was “an act of terror”.

OIL SPILL AFFECTING THREE STATES BARELY COVERED BY NATIONAL MEDIA

 An oil pipeline leak in Birmingham, Alabama has resulted in the loss of more than 250,000 gallons of gasoline, leading Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia to all declare a state of emergency. The spill is said to have been restricted to a water retention pond, and to have not reached the nearby Cahaba River, home to a number of endangered species. Despite the large number of states and citizens affected by the incident, it has received very little mainstream media coverage.

THE EMMY AWARDS GAME OF THRONES RULES THE NIGHT

The 68th Annual Primetime Emmys belonged to HBO’s Game of Thrones, where the hit fantasy series took home 12 awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. The show has now won a total of 38 Emmy awards over 6 seasons, making it the most-awarded scripted show in Emmy history. The previous record was held by NBC sitcom Frasier, which collected 37 awards over the course of 11 seasons.
