Black Lives Matter began as a social media hashtag in response to the tragic shooting deaths of Trayvon Martin, Eric Brown, Michael Garner and Alton Sterling. Over the past 3 years it has evolved into a full-on social movement designed to raise awareness of institutional racism and law-enforcement violence toward African Americans. Proponents claim it’s a vital first step towards eliminating double standards in the criminal justice system. Opponents claim it’s a form of reverse racism that disrespects police officers. In this episode of Rants, River J. gives her opinion on the often controversial campaign.
