After pledging to donate the entirety of their Black Friday retail profits to environmental causes, outdoor supply brand Patagonia netted $10 million in sales, nearly 5 times the projected sales total for the day. Patagonia also donates 1 percent of its year-round daily profits to grassroots green causes, many of which are lesser-known and in dire need of funding. A company statement on the fundraising effort reads, “Science is telling us loud and clear: We have a problem. By getting active in communities, we can raise our voices to defend policies and regulations that will protect wild places and wildlife, reduce carbon emissions…and, most crucially, ensure the United States remains fully committed to the vital goals set forth in the Paris Agreement on climate change.”
