With quarterbacks more important than ever in the NFL, it is extremely important to find a great one. With the 2021 League Year starting on March 17, there have already been multiple quarterbacks on the move including former number one overall pick Jared Goff.
Last off-season the marquee name moving was Tom Brady when he did the unthinkable moving from New England--where he spent his first 20 years in the NFL-- and went down south to Tampa Bay to join the Buccaneers. Other notable players that could be on the move this off-season include Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, Alex Smith, Marcus Mariota, and Sam Darnold.
Watson has been the quarterback of the Houston Texans for the last 4 seasons, but over the course of the last couple of months, he has seemed to grow increasingly upset, starting last March when former Head Coach, and General Manager Bill O’Brien traded All-Pro wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, for an older running back. Even after that Watson still signed a contract extension in September worth 4 years $156 Million. Once the season started, the Texans got off to a brutal 0-4 start, and Bill O’Brien was relieved of his duties.
Jack Easterby, a former team chaplain for the New England Patriots was hired by the Texans in April 2019 and became team owner, Cal McNair’s right-hand man, and soon took over as the Vice President of Football Operations. He and Watson do not see eye to eye. Watson was told by the hirer ups in the organization that he would be involved in the hiring process as they were looking for a new Head Coach and General Manager.
Easterby went ahead with the process and didn’t include Watson. He grew angrier with the organization and seemingly demanded a trade from the Houston Texans in late January.
As the weeks pass, the Texans seem to be determined to not trade Watson. He has had almost no communication with the team and it seems like a situation that won’t be resolved anytime soon.
