This announcement is for any students who would like to learn more about the United States Naval Academy as a post-secondary college option.  There will be a bus trip to visit the Academy, which is located in Annapolis Maryland on Saturday March 30th.  The  purpose of this trip is to give interested students and their parents an opportunity to see the Academy first hand, learn about the application/appointment process, and meet with local area high school graduates who are presently midshipmen at the Academy.  If you have an interest in serving your country as an officer, this is a great way to attend college for free, as a degree from the Academy is estimated to be worth approximately $400,000 for the four year program.

Check out the information sheet on Schoology if you would like to learn more!

NOW OVER TO ____ WITH THE NEWS

NEWS INTRO VIDEO

----------------------------

The US Federal Reserve does not expect to raise interest rates for the rest of 2019 amid slower economic growth. After a two-day meeting, monetary policymakers voted unanimously to keep the US interest rate range between 2.25%-2.5%. Fed members changed their outlook for 2019 from the two increases predicted in December to no movement. The central bank warned that "growth of economic activity has slowed from its solid rate in the fourth quarter".

In other news,

Rogue waves - huge swells that can appear from calm seas - are occurring less often but becoming more extreme, data from the US coast suggests. In the largest study of its kind, scientists analysed 20 years of observations from buoys situated along America's western seaboard. They found that between 1994 and 2016, the waves decreased slightly in frequency but increased in height. Scientists want to better understand how and when these waves may strike. They pose a growing threat for the global shipping industry.

On this day in 1965, in the name of African-American voting rights, 3,200 civil rights demonstrators in Alabama, led by Martin Luther King Jr., begin a historic march from Selma to Montgomery, the state’s capital. Federalized Alabama National Guardsmen and FBI agents were on hand to provide safe passage for the march, which twice had been turned back by Alabama state police at Selma’s Edmund Pettus Bridge.
