Elvis: The King Of Rock n' Roll

He is known as the king of Rock n’ Roll. Some simply say he was a king in general. For a short forty-two years he brought wonderful music and amazing acting into our hearts. This legend, this man, this king was Elvis Presley.

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi as a twin, but sadly his brother twin was stillborn. He was raised in a household with two loving and hard working parents. He was first introduced to music when his mother, who was raised with a strong faith in God, took him to church. At the church he was introduced to the music of the gospel which became a very important influence on little Elvis.

Twenty years later he released his first hit called Heartbreak Hotel. That same year he signed with RCA Records. He even released his first No. 1 album, Elvis Presley, and signed a movie contract with Paramount Pictures. He accomplished all these things within one year.  As his music career took off, so did his acting career. His first film, Love Me Tender which was filmed in 1956, was a box office hit.

Elvis was selected by the draft in March 1957. He was sent to Germany for about a year and a half until he got notice that his mother had died. He suffered from a dark sadness due to her death.  He returned back to the military where he met a young German girl named Priscilla Beaulieu.

After leaving the army in 1960, he continued his career of singing and acting. He soon became one of the top artists of the year. Acting in such films as Blue Hawaii (1961), Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962) and Viva Las Vegas (1964) brought him love from all around the world. Even though his films were often hit or miss with both critics and audiences, they brought in a profit and the soundtracks usually sold well. He wowed audiences with his performance of the show "'68 Comeback”, which showcased his talents as a singer and guitarist.

In 1967 he and Priscilla married and had a baby girl named Lisa Marie. Sadly, by the early seventies their marriage had begun to fall apart. Three years later the married couple divorced, and Priscilla was given full custody of Lisa. Elvis’ life began to fall apart as he was fighting a drug addiction and was battling problems with his weight. Soon his awful lifestyle caught up with him, and he was hospitalized. Even with his addiction and being hospitalized, he was still famous throughout the world.

During a warm August morning in 1977, Elvis had passed away. Elvis died after his heart failed, and it was ruled that his drug addiction caused it. Throughout his lifetime Elvis made rock n’ roll one of the most popular music styles in the world. He was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll museum in 1986, so that everyone can remember the king himself. In 1998, Presley was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame; three years later, he was posthumously inducted into the Gospel Music Association's Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
