On Monday, November 19th, a representative from AFS and the Speedwell Foundation will be in school periods 5,6 and 7 to meet with students interested in study abroad.  AFS supports students who want to spend a year abroad—either during high school  or post high school as a GAP year.  There are scholarships available.  This is an amazing opportunity to spend time in the country of your choosing. These are not just travel abroad experiences to Germany or Spain, but there are many choices of countries to choose from. There will also be an Ephrata student there, Destiny Ovensen-Stauffer, to share her experience in Germany last year.   If you are interested and would like to sign up, please see a language teacher in the building before Friday to get your name on the list..  Language teacher rooms are all located between rooms 128 and 138 on the first floor.

The school counseling office is holding a contest to look for artwork to feature on the cover of the 2019-2020 Course Selection Guide book.  If you are interested, please download a copy of the information sheet that has been posted to your Schoology newsfeed.  The submission deadline is November 20th, so don’t delay.

Residents in the Canadian city of Calgary have voted strongly against bidding to host the 2026 Winter Olympics. More than 56% of voters rejected the idea amid a high turnout. The Calgary vote leaves the Swedish capital Stockholm and an Italian bid involving Milan and Cortina D'Ampezzo as the only candidates left. Interest in hosting the summer and winter Olympics has fallen as the cost of staging the events has increased. The IOC will name the 2026 host city next June.

Each year, 6.5 million pets find themselves abandoned at U.S. Animal Shelters. Of those 6.5 million, a staggering 1.5 million are euthanized after staying in a shelter for only a month in a half. There will be a Humane League Donation Request from November 13th- November 20th in the cafeteria during lunch. At that time, feel free to donate money, toys, or dry pet food. Your donation will help alleviate the stress of acquiring daily necessities that these animals depend on. After dealing with a heartbreaking past, shelter animals are often left traumatized. With new toys and fresh food, it gives these broken souls another chanced to enjoy life again. We can help end their suffering. Save a life and Donate Today!
