Spanish Antics

This school year, EJ’s Spanish V class is made up of only three students: two of my friends and myself. We share a classroom with both the Spanish III and Spanish IV classes, so our class has a lot of independent work. One thing that we’ve been doing is reading a Spanish translation of the original script of the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This combines three things that I really love—the wizarding world of Harry Potter, Spanish, and having fun with my friends. This book has really been a challenge so far because it has a lot of words and phrases that we don’t recognize, but working together to figure things out is what makes it fun. Along with reading this book, we’ve also been working on piñatas to celebrate el Día de Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. This holiday is popular in many Spanish-speaking countries, and it also happens to coincide with Halloween. The spooky month of October is made even better by our celebration of both holidays.
