 GOLF GREAT ARNOLD PALMER

Arnold Palmer, the global sports icon known as “The King” of golf, has passed away from heart complications at age 87. The hard-working, charismatic son of a groundskeeper, Palmer is credited with transforming golf from a quiet country club pastime into an engaging everyman’s game. Over his 52-year professional golf career, he amassed 62 PGA victories, including four Masters titles. A 2004 recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Palmer also leaves behind a philanthropic legacy—his non-profit, Arnold Palmer Medical Center Foundation includes one of world’s most renowned children's hospitals.

MARLIN’S ACE JOSÉ FERNÁNDEZ

Miami Marlins star pitcher and 2013 NL Rookie of the Year, José Fernández, has died at age 24 after a boating accident in Florida. One of the sport’s most endearing stars, Fernández’s unique rags-to-riches story began in Cuba, where he sold vegetables for four dollars a day to support his family. After defecting to the U.S. at age 15 with his mother and sister, Fernández led his high school to two state championships and was later drafted by the Miami Marlins. Over the next five years, he went on to become the franchise's star pitcher and was twice voted to the All-Star game.

CHARLOTTE LIFTS CURFEW AS PROTESTS CONTINUE PEACEFULLY

 For the sixth consecutive night, demonstrators have taken to the streets of Charlotte to protest the police killing of Keith Scott, 43. Despite some protestor violence the day after the shooting, most marches have remained peaceful, and as a result, government officials have lifted the midnight curfew instated earlier in the week. Yesterday, Charlotte police released their video of the shooting, which provides no clear view of Scott holding a gun before being fired upon. Despite the inconclusive footage, the officers involved in the shooting continue to claim Scott was armed when fired upon.

PUNDITS PREDICT 100 MILLION VIEWS FOR FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

As global anticipation builds for the first U.S. Presidential Debate, television experts project network viewership rates to reach Super Bowl levels. Being the first time Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have ever discussed policy face-to-face, the event is expected to topple the previous debate viewership record of 80.2 million people, set when Ronald Reagan faced off against Jimmy Carter during the initial 1980 Presidential Debate. The Clinton-Trump debate will air on CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX and C-SPAN, as well as most major cable news channels.
