Delaware Valley OM Competition

On Saturday March 11, 2017 Delaware Valley competed at the regional OM competition at Pocono Mountain West High School.

Odyssey of The Mind was founded in 1978 by C. Samuel Micklus. This international program provides students with opportunities to develop problem solving skills as they analyze and solve problems in the following domains: Vehicle, Structure, Theatrical, Classical, and Technical. Teams all across the world spend their weekends and time after school preparing for competition as they create a skit, make costumes, build sets, design cars, robots, and structures. When competition time comes each team will present their solution to the problem through an eight minute skit. The students also compete in a spontaneous event where they have to solve never seem problems on the spot.

This year Delaware Valley High School sent a total of 4 teams (theatrical , structure, vehicle, and technical)  to compete in the regional competition at Pocono Mountain West High School. The students on the structure team had to design and build a structure made out of balsa wood and glue under 15 grams that will support massive amounts of weights. The Vehicle team  where responsible for designing, building, and operating multiple vehicles completing different tasks all with different power sources.  The theatrical team had to preform a skit as they creatively solve their problem using a specific theme. Finally, the technical team was required to build and program a robot that can complete tasks such as moving its arm back and forth and kicking its legs. More information on each problem can be found on https://www.odysseyofthemind.c...

All four Delaware Valley High School teams qualified for states and will compete on April 1, 2017 in Moon, PA.
