Brazilian Soccer Team Plane Crash. What Happened?

The suspected cause of the recent Bolivian charter flight crash that claimed the lives of 71 individuals, including much of Brazil’s Chapecoense soccer team, has been updated to include fuel shortage, not simply an electrical failure as was initially reported. Authorities are now examining a claim that the crew of LaMia airlines Flight 2933 skipped a scheduled refuel to save time, leading to a failed emergency landing. Given the accused negligence, the Bolivian government has revoked LaMia Airlines’ license and suspended its top executives as a full investigation into the crash begins. Post-accident reports indicate that the exact same plane carried Argentina’s national team to a game in Brazil in early November, as well as Venezuela’s national squad. The Chapecoense team was in the midst of a storybook season, having overcome Argentinian soccer powerhouses San Lorenzo and Independiente en route to the league final.
