The Invention of Writing

Have you ever thought about where writing came from? Or even how different our world would be without writing?  What about how writing was created? We take advantage of our ability to write every day, we don’t realize how different life would be without it. Writing was the single greatest concept created by early man and here’s why.

Thousands of years ago (around 3100 B.C.) our ancestors believed that information and knowledge could somehow be recorded. They thought of a way to do this. Eventually they created a simple way to record their crops by drawing pictures and symbols on a clay tablet using a reed. For hundreds of years these originals symbols were rarely changed. Back then not everybody was taught this skill. Special artisans called scribes were the ones who knew this information.

Writing was used back then to record many things such as temple activities, business, and trade. We still use our modern writing for those purposes today, however we have widen our ability to use writing for other purposes. Eventually they let the general public learn to write and they used it to remember stories, myths, and send personal letters. After a long time different people developed different languages, that’s why we have different ones today.

Writing influences our daily lives in ways you don't even realize. Writing gives us the ability to share our feelings, inspire, motivate, change lives, change minds, and even change history. Writing has influenced all of the progress we’ve ever made to change the world. Without it we couldn't share ideas to receive help to invent ideas. All of the computers, cell phones, tvs, roads, cars, books, and music all would have never existed if it weren’t thanks to writing. Without writing we would still be barbaric cavemen.

Writing is an open door to unlimited possibilities and shows others that those possibilities exist. This is all why writing has been the greatest concept of the early human civilization. It all started with one symbol, one word, one message. That first symbol on that clay tablet changed our world forever and will forever continue to change our world. Writing has always inspired the human race and was the pathway to becoming the most intelligent species on earth, without it we are nothing.
